Junction Island Ski Reserve & Walk

Ski Reserve Road Wentworth NSW 2648

Feb by higher southern rainfall and annual snowmelt, the Murray carries much more water than the Darling.  So the Murray waters dominate the Junction, forcing the Darling's course westward and forming the narrow spit of land between, known as Junction Island.  The line of buoys in the river marks the position of a sandbar extending from the island, now drowned by the high water of the weir pool behind lock 10.

Take a leisurely stroll along the wide cleared footpath to the point of the island, approximately 1km in length.  There is access to a boat ramp, seating to view the magestic Murray River and the cutting that creates Junction Island as a separate piece of nature to explore.
